Following on last week's discussion on the internationalization of Hong Kong cinema, such as Stephen Chao's films, do we think that 'kung fu' as a genre has successfully played a significant role in recent Hollywood films? on the other hand, do you think Hong KOng films (or directors) lose their flavour when they are involved in Hollywood productions? or do you think kung fu has been drowned or more seriously 'eaten up' by Hollywood cinema? or Hong Kong films have to rely on the more artistic genre to retain its identity, just like Wong ka Wai's films?
On that same line, what do you think about Chang Yi Mou's direction, or of course Lee An, as he went from Crouching tiger to Brokeback mountain, to Lust Caution? do you think Lee builds his success on selling Western stereotypes on chinese culture, such as kung fu, or even sex as it is tabooed in Chinese culture?
