what does disney mean to you?

we can start by thinking how disney affected our lives... or what do we think about whether or not Hong Kong culture has been weak because we have been affected too much by 'foreign' cultures, including Hollywood films... do we think that Hollywood films do naturalize some things as 'American'? images or messages that are positive in hollywood films, do we tend to associate it as 'American', or our imaginary of Americans?

Growing up with Disney films make you kind of think that it is part of your childhood and I think there is some values I did believe when I watch those film when I was a kind. Yes, I did think that all white are kind. Take example like the "Princess series", all of the girl are so kind and nice girl can get a price charming and live happily ever after. In my vague memory of Disney's film, even some of the whites play the bad guy, but at the end, they all turn to be good person. How could you not want to live in a western world? But later, when I am expose to more Hollywood films or American dramas ( esp. the "reality" show), you can see many dark sides of the society, and this is where my "American dream" is broken. I still find Disney films attractive, Disney know how to wrap up the western value and present the world as a very simple, black and white world. The messier the real world is, the better the Disney movies could touch people, coz this is the "dream world" they are presenting. To release the pressure from the real world.

Since the question is about what Disney means to me, I am just going to share some my own experience with you. Only I can remember the first Disney film I have seen with very clear memory is the Lion King and other films, like Cinderalla and Snow White and Beauty and Beast, have only imposed some vogue images on me.I don't know why, perhaps because the Lion King came out a little bit later and I am exposed to the Disney later than you guys. China made programs for children filled the main part of my childhood. Coming to my teen period, some young children began their fashion watching Disney, but we seemed to avoid watching Disney films newly made and purchasing products of Disney on purpose, like repelling everything in trend. But growing up as a young adult, my views towards disney are never that simple. For entertainment, I will download the latest disney film from the internet(legal in china and i will go to movie theatre when the movie is a both commercial and artistic success). What I am also aware of that some of my female friends are crazy about any disney stuff. the price of the products of disney actually is quite high in china's market. it makes me to think what they expect from buying these goods. does disney goods mean high status in their surroundings? or it plays as a way to memorize their childhood memory. maybe perhaps disney is a label for the customers, announcing "yes, we share the disney values",but not aware of the same meaning of Americanized.
